headshot

Cheryl has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice for over 22 years. She is licensed in both Kentucky and Illinois and offers therapy for older adolescents, adults, and couples both virtually and in person.

Cheryl also offers IFS clinical consultation. She is an approved IFS consultant through the Internal Family Systems Institute.

A graduate of the Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville in 1994, she has maintained her private practice for 22 years.

Cheryl specializes in eating disorders, trauma, and addiction using the Internal Family Systems Model. The IFS model helps the client gain respect and compassion for protective parts of themselves that came to help traumatized, exiled parts of the individual. After receiving permission from these protectors, the wounded parts are then witnessed and unburdened. This model moves beyond talk therapy to assist the individual in fully metabolizing trauma.

Using the IFS model since 2011, Cheryl is a Certified IFS Therapist (2017) and an Approved IFS Clinical Consultant through the Institute for Self Leadership.

Prior to working in private practice, Cheryl gained valuable experience facilitating chemical dependency groups, working with eating disorders, and using EMDR in a psychiatric hospital.

Cheryl was trained in EMDR in 2001 (beginning and advanced levels). She uses IFS or EMDR for trauma resolution.

Cheryl particularly enjoys working with clinicians dedicated to healing their parts in order to more effectively help their patients heal.

Cheryl’s 34 years of continuous sobriety from alcohol, 33 years of recovery from food addiction, and decades of personal healing from her own childhood trauma illustrate not only her professional dedication to healing but her long-term personal commitment to her own growth.

Cheryl adopted her now 20-year-old daughter from China as a single mom at age 39. This provides Cheryl with a more personal experience when working with adoptees as well as with adoptive parents.

She has been married for the second time since 2016 and is grateful to have a 30-year-old bonus daughter from her current marriage. Cheryl is also the proud mother of an Aussiedoodle named Waylon.
